Old footage is small and soft because the camera that shot it was. This tool rebuilds each frame at four times the size, reconstructing edge and texture detail rather than stretching pixels, then encodes the frames back into a new video file. It is the same model the photo upscaler uses, applied a few hundred times.

Your footage is never uploaded. Decoding, restoration, and encoding all happen inside your browser tab using your own hardware. For family video in particular that matters — these are usually the only copies that exist, and they are of people.

This is the slowest tool here by a wide margin, and that is inherent rather than fixable: a second of video is fifteen or more separate frames, each needing a full pass through the model. Start with a short clip to see whether the quality is worth the wait on your machine.

Common questions

How long a video can I restore?
A few hundred frames — roughly 30 seconds at 15fps. Each frame is a full model pass held in browser memory, so this is a real ceiling rather than a throttle. Trim to the part that matters, or use a lower frame rate to fit more.
Why is it so slow?
Every single frame goes through the same neural network the photo upscaler uses. A 20 second clip at 15fps is 300 model runs. A browser with GPU support (Chrome or Edge) is many times faster than one falling back to the CPU.
Can it restore a VHS or camcorder tape?
It can improve the digital file once you have one. You still need to capture the tape first with a capture device or a transfer service. Once you have an MP4, this enlarges and sharpens it.
Why is the output only a few hundred frames of my longer video?
It processes from the beginning up to the frame limit. Trim your clip to the section you actually want restored before dropping it in — that gives you a better result than a truncated pass over the whole thing.
Does it remove interlacing or noise?
Not as separate steps. The model was trained on degraded images and cleans up a good deal of softness and compression noise as a side effect of upscaling, but there is no dedicated deinterlace or denoise stage in the browser version.
What format do I get back?
An MP4 encoded by your browser, with no audio track. Audio is left out because the frames are resampled to a fixed rate; if you need the original sound, mux it back in with a video editor.
